Christmas 2018: Giving Back with Duxberry Alternative Arts School

Columbus, Ohio – December 27, 2018 – TotalChoice Mortgage is again teaming up with the community to give back this holiday season. Donations can be made by purchasing toys from a wish list that has been created by students at The Duxberry Arts Elementary School.

It means the world to us to be able to pay it forward and make someone’s holiday season special,” Matthew Shields, Sales Manager of TotalChoice Mortgage stated.

Robert Livingston, Sales Manager of TotalChoice Mortgage, added, “I am super pumped to be helping out the students at Duxberry and giving back to the community this holiday season.  To bring a smile to a child’s face is really heart opening.”

Located in an economically disadvantaged area of Columbus, Duxberry provides learning opportunities outside the commonly provided curriculum. They offer an Interdisciplinary Model Program in the Arts for Children and Teachers (IMPACT). The integration of dance, art, music and drama into basic academics helps foster student creativity and problem-solving skills.

Paige DeMatteo, Intermediate Multiple Disabilities Intervention Specialist of Duxberry Arts IMPACT Elementary School expressed, “IMPACT program at Duxberry is so important to our students. Due to the severity and multiplicity of our student’s disabilities they need many different types of experiences to learn and grow from. In order to become independent and successful community members that contribute to society it is our job to provide them with the best possible life and learning experiences they can have. That can be difficult for teachers when their children come to school dirty, hungry, or tired. This is where not just teachers, but the community can help. It is so important to me that I give my best to these children. They deserve everything we’ve got.”

Registration to donate toys is now open through December 14th at http://bit.ly/duxberryxmas.

Donors can purchase toys from a Target registry list curated by the students from 3 special education classrooms at Duxberry. Purchased items will be delivered directly to the TotalChoice office in the Brewery District. Tuesday, December 18th employees of TCM, and anyone who would like to volunteer, will deliver the gifts to the students. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to spend time with the students making Christmas Cards. We hope to provide these kids with the spirit of the holidays.
